Daniel Caldwell (Director, Voice, Alexander Technique) is the founder of Conservatory Theatre Ensemble (CTE), formerly called Ensemble Theatre Company (ETC), where he taught drama for 37 years until his retirement in 1999. His acting and directing credits can be found on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com) where we discover that he died in 1996 in Sherman Oaks. His “posthumous” work includes The Art of Dining at Marin Theatre Company, Autumn Canticle at the Eureka Theatre, and the film Dead City directed by his former student, Jason Houston, another CTE grad. Dan was also an important director in the early years of Marin Shakespeare Festival and a freelance director of the long running play, The Trial Of James McNeill Whistler.
His early career as an actor in film includes working with such luminaries as Woody Allen, Otto Preminger, Michelangelo Antonioni, Tommy Chong, Richard Lester and John Korty. He also served as national Vice-President of the Screen Actors Guild and president of the San Francisco branch for 18 years. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Marin Arts Council, Screen Actors Guild, the Magic Carpet Play Company and Teen’s Kickoff. He is married to actress Karlene Crockett and they have a son, Will. Dan also has three adult children.
